Big Fun at 4 Fun (28 September 2008)

The inaugural SPAR Pam Golding 4 Fun at St Francis, held last Saturday, was a huge success with over 100 participants taking part. Fish River Marathon (28 September 2008)

One of the worlds most popular river canoe races, the Hansa Powerade Fish River Canoe Marathon, will get under way at Grassridge dam on Friday, finishing in Cradock on Saturday. Over 1,500 paddlers will be converging on Cradock this weekend and the organizers have put together a big team of water safety officials from Port Elizabeth’s Surf Rescue and the local SAPS Swift Water Rescue personnel and divers. The lifesavers are exceptional,” said race committee head Louis Copeman. “They did an unbelievable job on the pre-Fish race two week ago in difficult conditions, and we are thrilled to have them helping at the race.”

OCEAN RACING SERIES - SEASON 4 (18 September 2008)

Nelson Mandela Bay's unique and exciting Ocean Racing Series kicks off with season 4 in a few weeks time with the first of 12 race days taking place on Sunday 5th October 2008.

The Series, which attracted over 2000 entries last season, includes a 1km Ocean Swim, 2km Ocean Swim, 6km Ocean Paddle and a 5km Fun Run and sees participants taking part in one of the four events on any of the 12 race days.

No special sports affiliations or equipment are required to take part in the Series, just a desire to get out there on a fortnightly basis and have some healthy fun this summer!

Registration is now open, with the 400 participants to register being assured of a registration pack, with contents valued in excess of R150. Those wishing to register and pay upfront for all twelve race days will receive a further incentive of a pair of beach shoes from one of the sponsors valued at R400.

This year participation in the Series will see the realization of some of the dreams of children with life threatening illness as Series organizers, Zports, have made Reach for a Dream their charity of choice for the upcoming Series. Through contribution from the Series and it's participants, Zports are planning to ensure that at each of the 12 race days one child’s dream will be realized.

Registration forms are now available at News Cafe, Triangle Sports, Planet Fitness and all leading sports shops, with a registration function being held on Friday 3rd October at the Moffett on Main lifestyle shopping centre for the collection of registration packs and Series clothing. See www.oceanracingseries.com for further information or contact Zports on 041 585 4843.
